Regional SharePoint User Conference 2009 Re-cap
The weekend of June 26th at the Holiday Inn, Sterling VA was the site for the 3rd Annual Regional SharePoint User Conference. The 2-day conference featured a lineup of exhibitors and presentations from the top SharePoint vendors, community leaders, admins, developers, and project managers throughout the region. Over 45 speakers delivered presentations and there was a featured panel at the end of Day 2.
Sponsors included AvePoint, i3 Solutions, fpweb.net, Quest, Corasworks, Syntergy, and many more!
Keynote Presenters included MVP Bob Mixon who delivered “SharePoint Enterprise Architecture: Harnessing the Power of Microsoft SharePoint” and Ron Simmons “The Power of SharePoint to Shape Business Operations, Practices, and Success - Or Why Buy SharePoint?”
One question that was a concern was how the event would fare with highly publicized events happening both before and after the conference. The organizational staff reported numbers close to 190 attendees for the event, which is near max-capacity.
The SharePoint industry as a whole is undergoing a shift with the rise of free community driven conferences which feature SharePoint heavyweights and actually do a great job of attracting organizations and information workers that are new to SharePoint. This new model can be considered a challenge of threat to the paid conference model.
The future success of the RSUC will depend largely on the organizing committee’s ability to maintain cutting edge topics and innovative twists to keep the crowds coming through the doors.
